An Icy Homecoming

Current Weather MapTuesday began the reign of the 2100 mile swath of a massive Winter storm.  Here in Ohio, we were scheduled to get Freezing rain rather than a dumping of snow as they are up North.  I think I'd rather have the snow, actually.  Freezing rain is so much harder to manage and as weather conditions change it can create other problems too.  So far, we have about a quarter of an inch of ice and forecasters are telling us we may get more this evening and tonight.  The real trouble may come tomorrow as we're expected to get snow on top of our ice and some winds.  Lord willing, all the ice encased trees around our area will stay strong and not shatter as the winds pick up.  Falling, shattering trees make power outages and when its in the single digits for temperatures, that makes for a bad combination.  I don't know about you, but I like to be warm and I like to be able to cook warm food when its cold outside.
The video below was taken this morning when Brian came home from work.  Our driveway was a sheet of ice and has just enough of an incline to be a problem. Before I took the video, initially, Brian had tried to pull the car up into the driveway so he could get out and open the door to pull in (our opener is broken).  At first, the car started sliding backwards even while in park just because of the incline. That's when I ran for my camera!   Thankfully, it didn't take but a few tries to get the job done and everyone is safe and sound!

I love this picture.  It is some fountain grass stuff I have in the backyard.  I think its amazing how the ice droplets have just frozen there.  It looks as if I sprayed them with water...but, I didn't  :)
Here is one of our stepping stones, again covered in ice.  So interesting that it looks just like water on it and as if it is sitting next to a puddle of water, when in fact, it's ice!

I hope all of you Faraway Friends enjoy this glimpse into our Icy Wonderland!
