HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

Do we need an Amber Alert for Thanksgiving?
It seems like everyone just skipped Thanksgiving!  Have you noticed?  We had Summer, then the Halloween decorations came out and then ZAP! BAM! BOOM!!  Every where you look its Christmas!!  Hellooo??  We're missing a MAJOR holiday!  Some of the radio stations around here started playing Christmas music October 30th!!  Please, please don't misunderstand, I'm not a Bah-Humbug sort of gal, but October? Seriously?
As a parent, in these days of  unthankfulness, it is hard enough to teach children to be thankful.  Our selfish American culture tells us its okay to think "I want this, I want that", "get one of these because they're better than the one you bought just last year. Aaand all your friends will think your cool."  If you're really good at gathering stuff then you can be featured on a TV show about hoarding!?  What's wrong with this picture?
This year, the kids and I decided to fly our Thankfulness Banner higher.   This year, we made a Thanksgiving Tree!!  I sketched out a tree trunk and branches on some brown shipping paper, cut out the shape and stuck it to the wall in our family room.  The kids set to cutting out leaf shapes that we found on the internet in varying colors.  Then came the fun, writing the things we're thankful for on our leaves.  It was fun to hear the different responses of each of the kids, some were funny, like "Hairspray", coming from Titus; while others, like "Beds" were evidence that they truly are thankful for the "little things".  It's not a grand decoration, just a little way to keep the reason for this season, the season of Thanksgiving, before their eyes.
For this I am Thankful…
For each new morning with its light,

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever

  3. I was sick to see Christmas decorations out with the Halloween decorations this year. You are right they skipped right over Thanksgiving and right into the highly commercialized Christmas. Ugh! I love the Thanksgiving tree you did with your kids. Soo cool! And I love all the comments people are leaving on FB as there days of Thanksgiving trying to keep it alive!
