Snow Days
After saying all that, it may not surprise you that when Brian took the kids sledding, I did not go with them. horrors! I know, I know, I'm such a stick in the mud...maybe I am, but I'm a warm stick in the mud!!
Brian was a trooper and took all the kids, even Emily. Emily always wants to go sledding until she gets to the hill and then she changes her mind and wants her mother. This time, Brian had the kids clear a little place in the snow, where she could dig in, eat snow, and observe the action. The sled of choice is a 3 ft. by 5 ft. gymnastics mat that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. Who knew it would end up being a sled?! They all sled their hearts out and had a great time. They came home hungry, a little worn out, and hungry, oh, and did I mention that they were hungry when they came in? Good thing, I had dinner ready and waiting!
I'm on the look out for Spring. Curse that little groundhog and his traditional prediction...I say we roast him over a roaring fire! Okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but it does get my point across, does it not? I'm ready for Spring. I want to plant my garden, I want to go outside and be warm, I want to see some color outside my window. Some of you don't understand how bleak it looks around here during winter. Once those beautiful Autumn leaves turn tail and fall to the ground, we've got nothin'! The colors are all gone. Snow is white and pretty when it first falls...then it gets the lived in look and loses its charm. Until the snow melts I dreaming of tropical places, wearing a single layer, and the warm sun on my face. I think I could survive just fine in one of those little huts over the crystal blue water...in fact, I'm sure of it!!
What fun to have so much snow to play in! I had good imagery when you described what happens after the leaves turn color and fall off... how bleak it must be! It's been sunny and somewhat warm here this week. All of our flowers are confused... I think they're all coming early because of a few "warm" temperatures we had in January. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteLove that they used the gymnastics matt as a sled! Way to be inventive! And you had dinner ready for them when they got home so you are a good mom!
