A Lesson In Bravery, by Titus

"I was just running to play outside and I tripped on that stick.  It had those pokey sings on it and they cut me.  I got blood on my hand, and my shirt, and a little on my Mama.  We went to the hostibul, but we didn't see Roy and Johnny.  Mama said that the doctor would be just as nice as the doctor on TV, and he was funny.  He poked me with a Bee sting thing and that was when I had two tears...but they went away and I didn't cry even one time. I got 5 stitches so that I won't bleed anymore and now we have to put medicine on it, they're blue.  The doctor had to use those long tweezers to clean out lots and lots of dirt stuff, then he threw them in the garbage.  My blood got them dirty. I have to take some medicine that tastes like bad bubble gum for 5 days.  Mama says that will help it to not get sick inside the stitches. The doctor called me "Son", even though I was not his son, but he was nice.  The nurse said I was the bravest four year old she ever knew, in the whole world!   The other doctor lady said I was so brave, and I gave her a high five, she was nice.   I could be a doctor sometime, after I'm 10, maybe, but probably after I'm 12, cause then I can babysit Emily."

From a mother of boys...

Broken bones and bloody knees,
I should have been a nurse.
I take it all in shaky stride-
Just grateful it's not worse!
