I Was Chosen!!
Can you believe it?? I was chosen to be a Taste of Home Field Editor!!
Ever since I first heard of the magazine, I've always thought, "I want to be a field editor when I grow up"! In fact, the first place we lived after we were married was a decrepit old single wide trailer in Pensacola, Florida. the Landlady had left a few issues of the magazine in the bathroom as a welcome sort of thing for us. (Not your average place for a housewarming gift, but then again you'd have to know the Landlady) After moving the magazines to the living room coffee table and reading them again and again, I really thought "I could do that." Fast forward 16 years, and....
Several months ago I put in the application and finally, a few weeks ago, I got the good news!
As a field editor, I will get to be a part of recipe submissions, discussions about topics upcoming in the magazine, participate in mentoring other cooks in the Taste of Home online forums, and other exciting things of which I will highlight as they happen.
For years when I was a kid, I would try my hand at cooking certain things. For YEARS, really, I wasn't allowed to make frosting because without fail, mine always did. I know, you're probably saying...frosting? How hard is that? Well, for me, it was hard. I always did something wrong and we needed MORE powdered sugar or the 7 minute frosting turned into 7 hours and then became garbage! lol! I can't tell you how many extra trips to the store we had to make to buy powdered sugar! Ha! It wasn't until 7 years ago, under the instruction of a friend who was baffled by my inability, that I finally learned to master the art of frosting.
Cooking is really something I enjoy. I have enjoyed the whole subject for years. When Brian was in college I would go along with him to the Library and read cookbooks...cover to cover. That got me addicted to learning about cooking and for years I would check out books and videos from the public library about cooking. I can't say that it's made me an expert by any means, but it has given me a lot of working knowledge that I can use.
One of the things that I was asked by Taste of Home was my worst and best kitchen experiences. That was fun to think about, hard to narrow it down too! Anybody care to share what there experiences have been?? I'd love to hear about it. I'll share mine next, just in case you care :)

ReplyDeleteLet me know if you need a taster!
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite times in the kitchen involve preparing Thanksgiving dinner with family all around. There is a void where the cobbler used to be though.
