In the Midst
So, now I take my camera with me everywhere. Its fun to just be able to pull it out of my purse and snap a quick picture when I see something that I'd like to remember or tell someone about. As you can see in my previous post, I may have an odd focus for my subjects, but I'm having fun anyway.
Recently, I was going down the road and noticed the beautiful sunset. I was on a road that had no place to turn off, unless I wanted to plow into some farmer's cornfield. Since it was a country road and there weren't very many cars around, I figured it would be harmless for me to just pull out my camera and snap a couple quick pictures. Well, I did and it was harmless and fun, but then I thought about people who text while they're driving and how bad that is... Ooops, am I being just as bad? Technically, I wasn't because my eyes were not ever off the road. I just held up my camera and snapped with one hand, keeping my eyes on the road. Totally different, right?
Fast forward a few days and you'll see I was at it again. Don't worry though, because this time I wasn't even driving, don't be alarmed! This time, I was the passenger, so it was perfectly safe. I've realized that all too often I decide not to take a picture because of the cars, buildings, wires, or general ugly stuff that is also around. What a loss. If it is pretty when I see it, on the road or in a parking lot, they why isn't it good enough for a photo? My answer is, I dunno. I guess it depends on what type of "art" you're trying to communicate through your photo. Or, rather, what I'm trying to communicate through my photos.
The difference between seeing things simply, without distractions or the way we really see things. Beauty in the midst.
