Our Vacation--The Cabin

First things first, where did we go?
We went to the
Hocking Hills area. It is is a deeply-dissected area of the Allegheny Plateau in Ohio, primarily in Hocking County, that features cliffs, gorges, rock shelters, and waterfalls. The relatively extreme topography in this area is due to the Blackhand Sandstone (so named because of Native American graphics on the formation near Newark, Ohio), a particular formation that is thick, hard and weather-resistant, and so forms high cliffs and narrow, deep gorges.
That's the "official" description for all of you fact lovers out there!
We rented a cabin that actually would hold our family! It took a lot of searching, I was quite amazed. You wouldn't believe how many places wanted to charge and extra $10 per night, PER CHILD!! That adds up quick, but we figure they're trying to cover themselves from renting to a family with monster children.
It was a 2 bedroom cabin with a full size futon that made into a perfect bed for tired children. It had all the comforts of home PLUS some that we don't even have! Such as a Hot tub and Satellite Television. The hot tub was much more used than the TV. Since we spent most of our days hiking around, the kids were pretty pooped, so watching TV was very low on the list of priorities.
There was also a fire pit and picnic table out in the yard that we made use of a few times. Of course, we had to make a fire so we could eat S'mores! I also learned that there is an actual recipe for S'mores. Really, inside the pack of chocolate bars there was a recipe. I read it, but I didn't follow it. Big shock, I know, but I didn't like their choice of how much chocolate belongs on a S'more! Some thing's are just best left to be suggestions, which is how I took it anyway.
The fire was a success. It burned hot and had great marshmallow roasting coals, but no children or shoes were melted/burned during the process.
I remembered how it is very possible to eat a lot of marshmallows and not feel full....until later. It made me remember some of the experiments of my youth. Such as....Potato chips are not good in S'mores, nor Doritos. Saltine crackers are a pretty good alternative to graham crackers, especially the really salty ones. Triscuits catch fire easily. Melting chocolate on the graham cracker over the fire is not really a very good idea. Tootsie rolls smell bad when the melt. Your brother should not put his shoes on the rock ring around a very hot fire. If you drop your S'more into the fire pit the 5 second rule does not apply. No matter how old you are your mother never likes it when you play in the fire, but Dad doesn't mind until Mom gets there. Those are just a few select memories, ones that I can share without getting into any trouble or raising any concerns about myself.

  3. Here is that link you requested! It is on the bottom left side of her page. It's called a wrag swag. I googled it and looked at different types. My individual pieces I made bigger like 7x3 1/2".
