The Itsy Bitsy "Pider"

Emily, our vivacious child LOVES spiders. Really, she doesn't just like to see them and get excited, she really, really LOVES them! If she sees one anywhere, no matter how ominous looking, she will go up to it and try to "see" it. Which means she tries to pick it up. If I were a worrier I would be concerned for her getting bit by some elusive poisonous spider, but I'm not. Thankfully, we don't live in Australia or some other place where deadly venomous spiders are commonplace, then I'd be a worrier for sure!

These pictures depict Emily's love for spiders.

A few months ago as we were out on an explore, Emily spotted a "pider" along side the trail.

Brian thought he'd humor her and pick it up for her to see up close.

Well, Emily is a hands on kind of girl and she wanted to hold it herself. So Brian put it into her hand.

She was soo excited to hold it. She kept pointing to it and saying "see, see, see a "pider!" "A pider! A pider!!"

Until...

...she pointed a little too close and smooshed the "pider" into her hand.
(if you click on this picture and see it full sized you can see a long spider leg dangling out of her little hand)

Even after she smooshed it, she still held it and was so pleased. We finally convinced her to put it down on the ground, but she still loved it just the same.

She just kept looking at it and talking all about the "pider".

I'm hoping that this is not a foretelling of how she will "love" and care for other things in life. If so, I'd better pray more seriously for her future husband!

  1. Aww, what a great story! i loved reading it and seeing the photos progress!! And the photos are wonferful!! I love how sharp they are... and the lighting is just perfect!! Truly are amazing photos. The look on her tiny face is just priceless... I can see all of the emotion on her face. So, how funny that she likes spiders so much! Keturah likes so follow bugs around, and she has picked up the occasionaly ant, but no spiders yet! LOL Thanks for sharing!

  2. hahaha! Love that story! My little girl (2) and I recently had a convo about things we're afraid of/hate. She's afraid of "fuzz." (Yes, it's true.) I told her I hate bumble bees (although I love things with images of bumble bees!). She said, "Nooooo! Why do you hate Chuck E. Cheese?"

I had no idea she even knew what Chuck E. Cheese was!! :)

Hey, thanks for dropping by the blog to play along with our contest! It's always great to see new faces!
