Baby Birds

Since the day I photographed the Robin eggs we've been keeping tabs on the nest. I thought it would be easier to get a picture of the baby birds. When we would look in the nest from a distance we could see the babies up and looking around.
However, those birds are already smart! Whenever we would move in for a closer, clearer view they would hunker down into the nest like they are here in the first picture. We really tried everything to try and get a picture of them upright, but all to no avail.

On this second attempt, you can see they had their beaks open, which seems like a classic "baby" thing to do. They're going to hunker down like they're supposed to, but their minds are on the next meal!!
I tried to get a better picture of them using my zoom lens, but without being able to get in amongst the branches I can't get a clear shot of them upright! ugh. Oh well, probably the next time I see them they'll be flying out of the nest or something.
Anyway, its been a little adventure for the children to watch the birds grow, so I'll be satisfied with that and not mourn my loss of the photograph. Okay, so, I'm still slightly contemplating how I could get a clear shot, but it's not keeping me up at night. Well, now that I think about it... I was thinking about trying to photograph them in the moonlight, but that was just a fleeting thought as I was already up photographing the full moon. Oh, but that's a subject for another day...
