Some of My Favorite Signs of Spring
It seems like our weather this year has been a little crazy. Is it Winter or Spring? It just kept going back and forth. To tell you the truth, I don't mind Winter at all. Oh sure, I freeze for months and wear more layers than a jello salad, but for some reason I still like it! However, when its supposed to be Spring, I like it to act like Spring!! I like all the seasons, but I just expect them to behave themselves and come out at the appropriate times!
Now it seems like Spring has finally sprung around here, and is actually toying with Summer temperatures a bit. (As the last two days have been in the low 80's) Its been wonderful!! My bones are finally warmed up and I'm ready to be outside.
So, back to my favorite things...

Cleaned out Flower beds!!
Waiting for new blooms and clean, fresh mulch!

Next, is how nice my house looks after the beds are cleaned out and the mulch is spread!! (Thanks J & T, 'yer awesome!)
Also, I love the pretty blooms on my tree that is in the corner by my front door. They don't last long as it always seems to rain just as they're at their peak. Thankfully, I managed to get a picture before that happened.
There are, of course, plenty of other things that I like about Spring, but I don't always have pictures of them! A special blessing that you'll soon see a photograph of is our garden plot. Ever since we've moved here, I've gone back and forth between being large, pregnant Marge and mother of a moving toddler...neither one lends itself very well to planting (tearing up my yard, etc) a garden. HOWEVER, this year, because some dear friends have offered, we will be tending a piece of ground at a friends home for our very own garden!! I've always used the Square Foot Gardening method and had great success with it, so that is what I plan to do this time also. I will be planting lots of veggies, and some flowers for cutting. I also have planted a few garden boxes that sit on my deck with Spinach and salad greens. My friend, Jenny will be happy to hear that I am trying to grow Dahlias again. I've tried and failed several times and since she's got the touch, I'm always inspired to try again when I see the pictures of her blooms! Maybe some time I'll try growing tomatoes, but not this year. I know, I know, I've heard it before "If you can grown anything, you should be able to grow tomatoes!!" Well, that's just another proof that I'm not your ordinary Joe because I have never been able to grow tomatoes successfully. Don't worry, I'm fine with that, I've made peace with my non-tomato growing self. It will just be another challenge for another day. Until then, they're not going to be on my list of favorites!

Your house looks awesome!! Wow, I'm not sure I had ever seen a photo of your home before! Tell me about the mulch... what's it for, what's it made of? Don't mulches have many purposes? (weeds, warmth, etc) I've been planting and gardening also. I can't believe you had weather that warm when it was still so cold not that long ago!
ReplyDeleteJen- about the mulch... Let's see, I think its made up of mostly wood thats been chipped up like shredded beef. They add color to it also, which is always fun after you've walked in it barefoot or pulled weeds without gloves...the color will come off on you. It helps keep the weeds down IF you have them pulled before you put it down. I'll be posting about a little "experience" that has caused me some frustration in my mulch, so look for that. Mulch also helps hold in the moisture, so your plants will be happier and not die of thirst so quickly when its hot.
ReplyDeleteAs for our weather...its been bouncing back and forth between nice and ugly so much that I'm getting annoyed. Thankfully, I have an indoor project going (painting my bathroom) and an outdoor project (building a garden box frame), so I can have something to work on no matter what its doing outside.
Of course, I'll also be posting about both of those projects later too... so thats the skinny on the mulch! :)
