The Case of the Missing Blogger
Contrary to popular opinion, you cannot find my picture on the back of any milk carton or thankfully on the wall of the local post office either. I've just decided that when things get too busy then my time on the computer is the first thing to go. To help myself out a bit, I downloaded a really nifty program from Microsoft. It's called Windows Live Writer and its a program that you can set up to use for writing your blog. It is going to be very helpful to me because I can write my blog offline as I have time and then post it when I can. Otherwise, with our dinosaur dial up connection it takes a tremendous amount of time, time, time.
We've been dealing with lots of fun things lately. Let's see where should I start...
At the beginning of January, actually Dec. 31st Emily was diagnosed with RSV and was VERY sick. Praise the Lord, she did not have to be hospitalized. She only had to be suctioned in the emergency care room. What they actually did to her makes the famous blue bulb syringe, (or, the booger sucker as we call it at our house) seem like a wonderful treat. For those of you who enjoy the details of medical procedures, sorry, you'll have to email for the details,
I'm not subjecting my other readers to the sights and sounds of a disgusting (and yet effective) procedure.
Next, I should mention that our hot water heater went out in the midst of Emily's illness. It was out for about 6 days. I became Ma Kettle, literally. Yes, doing dishes is such a thrill when you get to heat the water for washing and rinsing. Cold water anyone? No problem! The outside temperature was around freezing so the water was quite cold. Thankfully, the water heater was under warranty and I was able to call the company and they sent the offending part, we just had to pay for shipping. Brian was able to install the new part and became the hero of the day when it started working again!
Just as life was beginning to return to normal...Titus decided to enter the spotlight. At first, it seemed like the general cold and cough that circulates everywhere this time of year, but then things changed. My first clue that it was something more was that he kept falling. He was sitting on our little tykes picnic table in the playroom and then he wasn't. He fell off and was on the floor wailing "I don't want to barf!" Since we already had our turn with the stomach flu, I was in desperate prayer that it wasn't that again! After several more episodes of the same sort of thing, I noticed that he was also grabbing his ear as he was crying about barfing (which he only did once, BTW) I started giving him some herbal ear oil which relieved the pain and he seemed to feel better until Saturday (kids only get really sick on weekends and holidays) and then he spiked a 103.5 fever! That's when he barfed, and joy of all joys, he did it while I was holding him, so we both felt gross after that! However, it was right in the midst of that moment that I received a blessing from the Lord! As Titus was getting sick, I immediately and with great feeling asked Caleb to get me the barf bucket (an old hotel ice bucket--sorry, if I ruined your future ice bucket thoughts). Within a minute of my request, on the right came Caleb bringing the bucket and from the right side came a damp cloth from Ethan and a cup of freshly mixed Gatorade from Sophia!! Wow! What a crew of incredible children I have! All I asked for was the bucket and they flew into action and got just what I was about to ask for next !! God has blessed me with awesome kids and I am so thankful!
So, after a 2hr wait at the urgent care center, we had a prescription in hand for ear and throat infections. Thankfully this was the first time Titus has been on antibiotics for over a year, so once he started taking it he was better within a day!
Now things are starting to slow down a bit. Yesterday, we had a small, but contained fire on the stove and Titus tried to use liquid paper for lip gloss, but other than that things are looking up! Today, as I took Emily to the doctor (in 12 degree weather, with a global warming high of 22 today) , I just resigned myself to accepting trips to the doctor as "normal" and perfect. So, now my life is normal and as perfect as possible in my circumstances. It could be worse, I am more sure of that than ever.
After all, we're having such fun with pronouns, personal pronouns and antecedents, calcium carbonate chemical reactions, and learning who in the world Sir Wilfred of Labrador is, don't we need some excitement?

Wow, you guys HAVE had a lot of action around there! Emily had been on my mind a lot and I'm so glad she's doing better... she is doing better, right? We had to take Keturah to the ER a few weeks ago for a case of pink eye that went from nothing to horrible in hours. We just didn't want to wait until morning. Sick children are no fun. Dan is a little sick right now (a cold), the first time I can remember him being ill in a few years, maybe longer...but it's inventory time at work so he's still working VERY full days and long hours. It will be over soon though.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, Jenny, just listen to yourself! "Sick children are no fun. Dan is a little sick right now..." Is that really the parallel you you meant to draw? Hopefully this helps you remember why you love Brian's kid sister so much! (angelic smile)
ReplyDeleteYou girls help bring me back to reality when I'm tempted to romanticize motherhood too much. It's good to be reminded that the roses have thorns...yet it's worth the momentary prick to enjoy the sweet fragrance. The sufferings of the present are nothing compared with the glory that will follow. Thanks for your example!
Hehe, NO, that is not the parallel I meant to draw. Two completely separate ideas. Separated by a period. I never saw the parallel even coming since Dan is not a complainer, has never complained to me about anything, rarely gets sick, has never missed work or church for it, and I usually only know he's sick when I hear him coughing up stuff in the morning. So, he's a rather fun and easy sick person... unlike sick children, who are no fun. :) Yes, I DO remember why I love you so much!! :):):)
ReplyDeleteso glad to provide a topic of conversation for the two of you... :)
