I took too long...

I really need to stop saying...blah, blah, I'll tell you more tomorrow... Because something ALWAYS comes up and I don't get to post!! arrghh, When will I ever learn?!
Mr. Titus, the birthday boy has been sick and Ethan got pinkeye, which he is generously sharing with Titus! All of this is happening as I have the schoolroom torn apart, which is also our guest bedroom. We also just got a new-to-us desk for our computer, and moved our old one into our bedroom so I can organize my sewing supplies into it. All of these things put together equal one mess that HAS to get cleaned up!! However, the sickness of children and today, me, are hampering my progress!!
I was clipping right along with no hitches in my get along, when I almost threw something out the window (not really). I am attempting to decorate our schoolroom so that it looks for fun and inviting instead of bare white walls. I went to the school supply store with my four children amidst all of the "teachers" buying supplies for their "classrooms" (oh, the dirty looks I got..mmm, mmm) . We found wonderful posters and paper and borders for our bulletin board, a solar system to hang from the ceiling, and an ABC border thing to put around the room near the top of the wall. Well, it was just that little ABC border thing that gave me fits!! I was determined that it would hang in a certain place and be ABSOLUTELY LEVEL. After three whole hearted attempts, I decided that I wasn't going to teach the ABC's anymore, I was rather fed up. Finally, I got some good advice from my Dad and measured and marked lightly with a pencil alllllll the waaaay along the wall. (Sorry Mom, maybe I'll do the chalk thing next time) This was what finally worked, and why I didn't try it before, I don't know! What was I thinking?? So now the banner is up and so is the whiteboard and some other posters. Next, I have to hang the bulletin board and solar system, which I'm sure will be the subject of another post, but don't quote me on that.

  1. Shopping at a school supply store sounds fun! I'm going to look into our local one soon, thanks for the great idea! Hmmm....why did you get dirty looks though, I mean, how did they know you were planning on homeschooling? Couldn't they have thought that you were a public school teacher with four children of your own? Dirty looks....tsk tsk, is Ohio less accepting of homeschooling? It seems like here I get a "high five-congratulations-for-doing-the right thing" response whenever I mention our schooling. So far I've never had any negativity. Sorry for all of the questions, it just makes me all curious. :) Bye!

  2. I don't know why I got all the dirty looks. I couldn't figure out if it was because I brought CHILDREN in the TEACHER'S store or that I had FOUR children with me, or that they heard us talking about choosing things for our schoolroom. Who knows!
Most people are commending when it comes to our schooling, either that or they think I'm just plain crazy for doing it with 4 kids! HA! They should consider the families out there with 6,7,8,9, or more doing the same thing!!

  3. I also got an ABC & 123 border to put around the top of the wall in Anna's bedroom. It makes it all nice and cheery!

  4. Kerilee: surprise it's dawn, hope you remember me. I so enjoy reading your stories but you need to finish the one for the insurance. I can just see you guys reacting that way too. I miss you guys. hope ethan and titus are doing better. you should consider writing a book with your stories, I'm sure it would be such an encouragement to other homeschooling moms and maybe give them ideas too. You are talented in the writing field. Take care. Thanks for sharing and letting me know about the blog
