Our house has grown by FOUR FEET!!

As you've read before, the children passed the "Puppy Challenge". We had found a breeder that we felt comfortable with in an area about 4 hours away. When the day came that the puppy was old enough to be taken home, we planned our trip to "the puppy's house". The breeder lived near Scio, Ohio, which is northeast of Columbus. We decided to expand our adventure and go to Columbus on Friday afternoon and spend the night in a hotel and let the kids swim. Saturday morning, we would wake up, eat breakfast and set out to Scio, Ohio!!
It all went as planned and we had a fun time together, everyone was already in excited mode about getting the puppy. We found the breeders house after taking a VERY scenic route (aka: getting lost and asking the telephone repair man on the roadside for directions :)
We spent a little while talking with the breeder and then we loaded up the troops and our new member and set off for home. It was a fun drive home. Who wouldn't enjoy holding a snuggly puppy in your arms as she sleeps the hours away in your lap?! I don't know many and I know I enjoyed every minute of it! She was, however scared out of her mind and she even barfed a few times in the car, and managed to get my skirt (that was the real test of liking her).

After getting home, we all began "the adjustment period". The first two nights were HORRIBLE, she barked and cried and wimpered and whined and scratched allllllllll night long. We tried a couple of things to discourage her, but it became horribly clear that we just needed to ignore her. By Monday morning I was ready to take her back. There were some other female things going on for me at that time that had distorted my mental state, but by Tuesday everything had calmed down nicely. Now she sleeps at night and long into the morning without any noise, except for the occasional early morning cry to go to her potty spot.

***Updated... Silly me, I forgot to tell you her name! Her name is Ruby and she is an English Springer Spaniel. She is 9 weeks old today and will soon get to go to puppy school!

  2. New puppies are so fun! She barfed in the car because puppies are very sensitive to car sickness, but it goes away as she gets older. I'm so glad she's adjusting well, I bet the kids are loving it!
