Today's Lesson "Why Boys Should Obey"

I think it is a universal fact that boys love Legos. They spend hours, hours, and more hours making planes, cars, trucks, helicopters, forts, and a hundred other things that I haven't mentioned. For a long time, the boys had struggled with keeping things picked up. Then we made the Puppy Deal and things were MUCH better! Not only would a lego left out be potentially dangerous for Titus, but also for a puppy that hasn't learned about Legos. Last night our boys learned an important lesson about obeying. Just before dinner time I told Ethan to put the last of the Legos away, including the big platform things that they build on. He had been playing with them. Then I left the room to check on our dinner. When I came back he hadn't gotten all of them put away. I asked him if he had gotten them out again or what was the story? He was having trouble getting them to fit in the drawer the right way as there is a certain order to how they go in (he does know how to do it). I told him to ask Caleb to help him with it because he was right there putting his own Lego contraption away. Then I had to leave the room again to get the baby.
At the dinner table I asked, "Did all the Legos get put away?" "YESSS!" they said. So we began to eat. It was a nice dinner, we all liked it. Brian came home just after we started and we were all glad for that. After dinner, Papa wanted to take a little trip to a store to explore some aircraft things that the children and I had seen the week before. Great! The kids cleaned up from dinner, I put the food away and off we went.
When we got home, it was time to get ready for bed and to have Family Bible Time! Everyone did their jobs and got ready for bed lickety-split!
Later that evening while Brian was talking on the phone with his sister, I went to return an email before I forgot. While I was in the family room, Brian called my name, so, being the quick to come when called wife that I am, I got up and headed towards the bedroom where he was. HOWEVER... My steps were hindered!
As I got up and stepped I stepped around the rocking chair and firmly planted my left foot on a LEGO PLATFORM (ENTER DEATH MARCH MUSIC), as I did this, part of my foot went down and my toes stayed up and yoweeeeee!!! It hurt! Then because of this hurting me I lost my balance and fell down on the floor, hitting my knees, and hitting my wrist somehow to give me a bruise. Oh yes, I was soooo happy. NOT A CHANCE! I was really quite mad! I have told my children 10000000's of times that "One day someone is going to step on one of these and get hurt!!" Well, great day, it was me! So as far as I can assess my injuries, I have at least 2 broken toes, but it might be my foot by the toes, I can't tell. I know that I was thankful for leftover prescription medication last night! lol I was able to get my athletic shoe on today although it didn't help the pain AT ALL, but I did it for the protection. I don't want to go get it checked because I know they don't do anything for broken toes except say "Yep, it's broken!" and I can say that for free. So after Brian was off the phone and realized the extent of my injuries and what had caused them he awakened the boys to show them what happened when they were disobedient in the job that I had given them AND in not telling the truth about the Legos being picked up! They had a VERY SERIOUS TALK and then repented profusely.
Today they were very careful to complete their checklist without error and also to be overly helpful to me. I know this has been a good lesson for them, but I just wish that my foot would hurt a lot less! I've heard it said that "A Mother will sacrifice life and limb for her children", I guess now, I can feel the pain of that statement a little more than before last night.
So, that's today's lesson, I hope you will be able to use it to teach others, but now it's time for me to go take more pain pills! :)

  3. Ohhhh! Owwwwwwwie! Laura so sorry for you! Having recently sprained my ankle, I know what a "pain" it can be to limp through life with the decreased mobility that comes with a foot injury...and I don't even have any kids to run after yet!

And don't let anyone put you down for being a klutz; it's a high and noble calling! Besides, few people have mastered the art of klutziness as gracefully as you. (But it really sounds like this little misfortune was more a matter of innocent victimization than klutziness!)

Seriously, I'll be praying for you!

    Take care!

  4. What a story! So, were they lying on purpose when they said at dinner that they picked it all up? Or did they just miss that piece? Were they all saying the same story? Or just one of them?? So sorry that you're hurt! You should go to the doctor and take the fees out of their birthday money! Or make them sell the Legos on ebay for the fee! LOL We have often confiscated gift money (rather made them hand it over willingly) because of irresponsible behavior. It helps them to learn the impact of their actions. I truly hope your foot feels better soon! When I broke my toe, the doctor did show me how to tape it and it did feel better. :)
