A SMASHING SUCCESS

A Fashionable Event...

I wish I could say that I have all kinds of great pictures to share of our Mother & Daughter Banquet last night, but I don't. I was sooo busy with what I was doing that there was hardly any time to take any pictures. Next time, I'll remember what it's like and have someone take pictures for me. I do have a few from before my part began and bits of things that we used in our skit. I hope it will be fun for you to read at least.

The skit was "FASHIONS FOR TODAY'S MOTHERS & DAUGHTER'S" Making the "fashions" was a lot of fun, thankfully I had the help of a friend, Linda Fehlen and we also put somethings together at our monthly Ladies meeting. I became a scavenger at the local thrift stores for many of the ugliest moo-moo's you can imagine. After coming home with one polyester wonder, Brian asked "Do people ACTUALLY still wear things like that?" My answer was, "I don't think that any get worn outside of a nursing home!" So, here's the text of what we did, I didn't read it word for word, it was GROSSLY imbellished by my character.

1- House Dress

Sometimes we just need something to wear around the house.
This “house dress” will be light and comfortable, just
a-DOOR-able! All great outfits need accessories and she’s wearing just the necklace for those days when all you want to do is “lei” around. Kid’s driving ya crazy? This hat is just the thing to wear on those frustrating days when you fell like blowing your top!

2- Sun Dress

When you want to make sure that you feel like the earth revolves around YOU, a SUN Dress is just what you need! So simple and yet so sunning (I mean, stunning) And if that isn’t enough to make you shine in a crowd then this headband will assure that you will be beaming from HEAD to toe!

3- Turtleneck shirt & Duck shoes

When it’s cold, blustery, and rainy, a turtle neck is just what you need to stay warm. Everyone needs a pair of “duck” shoes to keep their toes warm and dry. I know, I know you’re “pondering” about weather or not you can afford this…but, Don’t worry about shelling out too much on this outfit, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, it’s a slo0w seller.


Since we are BAPTIST ladies we are alll concerned about modesty. Please pay close attention to this! (Our pastor would NOT approve if we were influencing you to dress worldly)

4- Bloomers ( Sophia Hayden )

Our next model is so sweet, so innocent. Just look at that face (that’s my baby!) She is wearing something that is underestimated, in my opinion, something many people think is “old fashioned”. (FLIP UP DRESS)
That’s right, ladies, Bloomers! When you want to make sure that you’ll Bloom where you’re planted, REMEMBER to get a pair of these bloomers.

Not everyone can wear an outfit like this next one! It takes a special lady to be able to wear these “JIM” shoes. These “Jim” shoes provide comfort and support. Prop them on the arm of the couch or wear them when you put the moves on when you’re in the midst of a heated competition. “Jim” shoes are versatile, lightweight. There’s only one warning…Don’t wear them late at night, they are light sensitive!

I had a lot of fun doing the skit and people really seemed to enjoy it. It was videotaped by Linda, which may or may not be a good thing! It could be blackmail material. We had lot of ladies attend that don't normally go to our church. The theme of the night was "The Joy of Toys" and throughout the night there were three object lesson devotions given. The first was the one that I gave and the object lesson was using dress up clothes. The scripture was Isaiah 61:10 that talks about being clothed in the garment of salvation. The second object (given by our assist. Pastor's wife) was a big bouncy ball and talked about trusting in God as our Heavenly Father. The third was a Kite (given by our Pastor's wife) , and that was illustrating people as the kite and the wind as the strength of the Lord. The point being that on our own we cannot be used for what we were made for, but only with the strength of the Lord (wind) . The Gospel was given and prayerfully anyone that wasn't saved was stirred by the Holy Spirit and will be saved. So that's the story of it all, in a nutshell, only the video has what really happened and I'm not about to post that here!
