Our Trip to Atlanta...
Taking a road trip is always an adventure. Often times when you go on a car trip there are "events" that take place that make the trip seem more, well, let's say "special". This trip was no exception to that...
Brian was going to the Chick-fil-A
Corporate Offices in Atlanta for some special training courses and his boss generously offered for the whole family to accompany him. So, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm, we all piled into our car and set out for an 8 hour drive from Dayton, through Kentucky, through Tennessee, and on to Atlanta, Georgia. We were even going to make a pitstop at Costco, which is near Cincinnati and pick up a large and long overdue photo order. Everything was going according to plan, even baby Titus was having a nice time in the car! Then as we were driving along minding our own business, I noticed that an ambulance that was in the right lane next to us was coming over into our lane! Just as I noticed, Brian noticed also, and then BAM! He was in our lane! HE BONKED OUR CAR!! Right by my door! He hit our mirror! Thankfully we have the kind of mirrors that fold in when they get bonked or it would've broken it right off.
Then the guy driving sped up and tried to act as if nothing happened. We copied down every number and marking that we could find on the ambulance so we could call the company and tell them that their driver was a menace. (Perhaps he was bored and wanted to make us into casualties so he could get some business for his ambulance?!)
We caught up to him, but he had put himself far back in his seat so we couldn't see him, he was being VERY bad. We kept following him, hoping that we would see a highway patrol and could report the driver to him. As we continued following him, we saw him do the same thing to another driver! We finally found an exit off the highway that had a highway patrol office and got off there. We did report it to an officer and they were going to try and catch up with him and see what his problem was, but as fast as he was driving they said it would be difficult to catch up to him. As we continued on our way we thought up all sorts of grand ideas about the driver and the story behind his guilty manner... ... maybe he had stolen the ambulance and was trying to get away because he robbed a bank... ...maybe it wasn't a real ambulance, but a meth. lab on wheels... ...maybe he was a terrorist and was going to use the ambulance to blow something up... ...or maybe he was a irresponsible sleepy driver who was too chicken to own up to doing something stupid!! No matter what the real reason was, we are thankful that the Lord kept us all safe and that we were NOT at fault in any way! The rest of the trip to Atlanta was uneventful and we didn't actually arrive there until around 11:30 p.m. Thankfully, we were blessed by staying in a nice and cushy hotel and their beds were wonderful. We all slept great that night. Tomorrow I'll tell you about what happned next... No more crashing cars, but some memorable events that will go down in the Hayden family scrapbook!
WOW! How is it that you guys find cool drama wherever you go?? We never have that kind of stuf happen to us! LOL! I'm glad you're all right and that no serious damage was done. I would say that the ambulance wasn't a real one...those emt's are usually proud of their job and position, and are really out there to help people....that's their whole job....I bet it was a "retired" or stolen one being used for something else. What a story though! Thanks for the fun!
