Falls, Buddies, & Skating
As a reward for being faithful to church and Sunday School our church sponsored a Skating Party for the children. Ethan and Sophia had never gone skating before, only Caleb. They were all beside themselves with excitement about going skating with their friends. At first, Sophia was very nervous about going and was thinking of backing out. I talked with her and found out that the reason that she was so nervous was that she thought that they would be skating outside on concrete and she didn't want to fall down and get hurt. Once she found out that it was inside and there was a floor to fall on instead of rough concrete she was ready to give it a try! She only fell a few times, but had a great time. Now she's asking for skates for her next birthday!
Ethan wore the kiddie skates and was able to control himself and not fall a lot. He says that he had a great time. He enjoyed spending time with his friend Jordan and has told us that he plans to take Jordan skating on his 10 year old birthday. Since both Jordan and Ethan are only 4 years old, I think that he may have to re-think his plan or adjust the time a bit!
Caleb had a great time also and even though he fell over and over again, he kept on getting up and trying again. He was determined to keep trying AND to do it with a good attitude instead of getting upset. (This is a BIG step for Caleb!) Since the skating party Caleb has been inspired to learn to use his rollerblades and to use them well. He used some money that he had to purchase all the pads so he can protect his bones a bit better as he learns.
It's such a blessing to see the children overcome and persevere through things like skating and rollerblading. We teach them that with the Lord's help they can overcome any circumstance. As we see them have success in these small areas it is so encouraging to know that they are preparing to grow up to take on more difficult challenges with the help of their Lord. God is so good.

Wow, that sounds like so much fun! My kids have never been skating yet, but I bet they would love it! I used to LOVE to go as a child. It really is so fun to watch our children strive and conquer new things. I'm so glad that you all had fun!
